Sick Building Syndrome
Common Features:
Symptoms consistently appear in an individual upon entering a building.
Symptoms disappear when individual leaves building.
Often occurs in new, poorly ventilated, or recently refurbished office building.
Suspected causes:
- combustion products
- household chemicals
- biological materials & vapors
- emissions from building furnishings
Irritancy to eyes, nose, throat are predominant symptoms.
Sensitivity may increase with repeated exposures.
Some chronic diseases associated with SBS.
