CO Dangers, Dr. D. Penney

Furnace Dangers:

Factors that tend to Decrease CO in the Breathing Space:

  • Large breathing volume

  • Low CO input rate

  • "Looseness" of boundary walls (high air changes per hour value)

  • Decreased CO concentration in outside air

  • Decreased human exhalation of CO generated by metabolism of heme compounds, halogenated methanes, etc.

  • Human metabolism of CO -----> CO2

  • Decreased altitude, increased atmospheric pressure

  • CO scrubbers, if present
