Factors Determining blood Viscosity

  • Hematocrit (Hct = RBC column length / whole blood column length X 100)

  • Erythrocyte deformability
    decrease due to hypothermia, hypoxia, acidosis, hypoglycemia

  • Plasma viscosity is increased by an increase plasma protein and fibrinogen concentration, blood osmolarity, and lipid concentration
