Think in terms of Total Fluid Energy!

  • Transmural pressure decreases in the small tube, so fluid flows to larger tube at a higher pressure! Thus, take home lesson - fluid can flow from area of lower pressure to one of higher pressure. Recall LV ejection after the pressure "crossover".

  • Clearly, kinetic energy must not be ignored in measuring the pressure of blood flowing through a vessel, particularly when the kinetic energy component is a large part of the fluid energy.
