Table 5.01 shows the flow velocities in various blood vessels. It should be noted that as vessel diameter decreases, velocity also decreases. Surprisingly, flow velocity is substantial in the vena cavae, the largest veins in the body. Also note that shear rate is greatest and Reynolds number smallest in the smallest vessels.
