Coronary Circulation (continued..):

As has been indicated earlier, blood flow through the coronary circulation is largely controlled by the tissue itself. This is known as "local control" of blood flow. Various mechanisms have been postulated to explain it. Another manifestation is Autoregulation of blood flow (Figure 3.10). Various messenger substances have been implicated in the feedback control mechanisms that connect energy utilization (ie. need) with substrate delivery (ie. supply). Adenosine, a breakdown product of ATP, probably plays a major role in these mechanisms in the heart, and possibly also in skeletal muscle. [SEE MISCONCEPTION 8]
