Indices of Cardiac performance
Many parameters have been used as indices of cardiac performance: dP/dt, Vmax, ejection fraction, the "double product" (blood pressure x heart rate), PEP/LVEP, ECG, heart rate, cardiac output, stroke work, end-diastolic pressure, stroke volume, minute work, ejection pressure, and end-diastolic volume. The first five are good to excellent indices, while the remainder are much poorer and not generally used. For approaches to obtaining diagnostic information on the heart, SEE Table 2.03.
