Heart Rate Control
A large number of factors and agents cause increases in heart rate : inspiration, excitement, exercise, decreased pressure on the peripheral baroreceptors, catecholamines, thyroid hormone, fever, etc.
Other factors and agents produce decreases in heart rate : expiration, fear/grief, increased pressure on the peripheral baroreceptors, breath-holding/diving, the Cushing reflex, etc.
