Although physiologists had known for some time that there was a relationship between heart rate and blood pressure, as embodied in Marey's law, it was for Corneille Heymans in the 1920s to demonstrate the baroreceptor reflex and the site of the pressure receptors. This brought him the Nobel prize in 1938.
