Pioneer Park, located on the west side of Woodward Avenue, just north of Normandy. The bronze plaque reads, "DURING THE EARLY SUMMER OF 1818, THE FIRST WHITE MEN TO SYSTEMATICALLY EXPLORE THIS REGION, CAMPED NEAR THIS SPOT ON THE FIRST NIGHT THEY SPENT IN WHAT IS NOW OAKLAND COUNTY. THESE MEN WERE D.O. Mckinstry, John Montieth, Benjamin Stead, A.G. Whitney, Austin E. Wing. Erected in 1948 by THE ROYAL OAK HISTORICAL SOCIETY"
