Sulfur Dioxide

Use, Caution, Symptoms, Exposure Limits:

  • Use - Preserving fruits, vegetables; disinfectant in breweries & food factories; bleach textiles, straw, gelatin, glue, beet sugars

  • Caution - Irritant to eyes, nose and throat

  • Symptoms - Choking, coughing; rhinorrhea; reflex bronchoconstriction; eye and skin burns

  • Exposure Limits - ACGIH TLV: TWA = 2 ppm, STEL = 5 ppm. OSHA PEL: TWA = 2 ppm, STEL = 5 ppm
