  • Colorless gas, essentially non-combustible

  • Density (gas) = 1.036

  • Solubility in water - 4.6 ml/100 ml at 20 degr. C.

  • Combines with oxygen to form nitrogen dioxide

  • Effector molecule synthesized from arginine in the body, eg. vasoaction, inhibition of platelet aggregation
