Chronic CO Poisoning:
Differences from Acute CO Poisoning:
- May not elicit the typical symptoms of (acute) CO poisoning:
- - vomiting
- - altered conscious state
- - Lactic acidosis
- - ataxia
- - mucous membranes almost never cherry pink
- COHb is usually not excessively elevated
- More difficult to recognize than acute CO poisoning
- CT and MRI rarely useful, except to rule out stroke, tumor, etc.
